St Mirren manager Danny Lennon is still confident that he can secure the futures of Jeroen Tesselaar and Nigel Hasselbaink after weeks of negotiations.
The Dutchmen have impressed the Buddies boss this term and Lennon believes that despite talks dragging on longer than first hoped he can still keep the pair at St Mirren Park.
“We have written to the representative this week so we are waiting to hear back from him,” The Saints manager said.
“I will pick it up with the players personally today as tomorrow is our last game obviously, and I’m sure the players are scheduled to go back to Holland on Sunday, so we will see what kind of language we get out of them in terms of where we are going with it.”
Lennon says that although the players will be free to move on to other clubs he is confident the pair will stay in Paisley to continue their progress from this season.
“We’re confident as a football club, we certainly want the two boys here, they have brought good qualities to our club this season.
“We feel that we have developed the players, there is a lot of development still left in them, and this is certainly the right place for them.
“What we certainly will do as a football club is we will pay exactly what we can afford and that is just us living within our means.”
The Saints boss has also confirmed that he has been having a look at Newcastle United pair Dan Taylor and Patrick Nzuzi and admits that they have impressed in their short training stint at the club.
“We have the two lads up training at this minute in time and what we saw was very favourable for them,” Lennon added.
“It’s only training sessions so we would like a little bit more time with the players, they have got a fantastic pedigree, Tommy [Craig] has a wonderful connection with the players and staff at Newcastle and it’s a different ball game altogether down there.
“It’s a bridge and a gap that we are trying to close with them, if there’s good quality players coming from there then we believe we can develop them even further in terms of strengthening our football club and also giving them a platform to show their ability.”
