No place for Yoann Gourcouff as Laurent Blanc names 23-man squad

Florent Malouda made the cut and brings 74 caps worth of experience to France.SNS Group

Laurent Blanc has confirmed his 23-man squad for the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

The French manager has decided not to include a number of high-profile names from his squad, concentrating instead on a relatively young group.

Indeed, only five players - Steve Mandanda, Patrice Evra, Franck Ribery, Samir Nasri and Karim Benzema - are veterans of the Euro 2008 campaign in which France finished bottom of their group.

Notable omissions from the squad include Lyon's Yoann Gourcuff, while there are call-ups for Cédric Carrasso of Bordeaux and Laurent Koscielny of Arsenal, who have only one cap each.
