Kris Commons has been called into the Scotland squad for the 2014 World Cup qualifying double header with Wales and Belgium.

The Celtic midfielder, who was not named in the original selection, replaces the injured Robert Snodgrass.

Jordan Rhodes also withdrew from the squad on Tuesday. The Blackburn Rovers striker suffered an ankle knock in his side's weekend defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers and, having originally joined up with Craig Levein's side, is on his way back to Lancashire.

A spokesperson for the Championship club told STV: "We can confirm Jordan is on his way back to Blackburn.

"He has an ankle injury which he picked up during our game with Wolves at the weekend.

"He has subsequently had to withdraw from the Scotland squad for this reason."

Snodgrass was on the bench for Norwich City in their weekend game with Chelsea but didn't make it on to the pitch because of his ankle injury.

Scotland face Wales in Cardiff on Friday, before travelling to Brussels to take on Belgium next Tuesday.
