Scottish Football League clubs to vote on newco Rangers proposal

Scottish Football League clubs will vote next Thursday on plans to allow newco Rangers to play in the First Division.

The 30 members of the league met at Hampden on Tuesday to discuss the proposals, which would see Charles Green’s new club bypass the bottom two divisions in exchange for a TV rights payment of £1m and the introduction of play-offs.

The SFL board has ruled a simple majority will be required in the vote. A number of clubs have already indicated they will abstain due to a conflict of interest.

Speaking after the meeting, chief executive David Longmuir said: "Clubs are now in a much more informed position to go back to their own boards and fan groups and take the information we gave them today to go and make informed decisions.

"It is time to give them time to reflect on the scenarios and consequences of the different scenarios and engage in proper dialogue with their own boards and fans.

"The meeting was very forthright. We care about the future of the game. It is time for a bit of reflection and space to digest what they got today. We will all be in a better position in a few day's time.

"I think the magnitude of the situation and the effect of the crisis we have found ourselves in... it doesn't really matter how it has arisen. It will have a massive impact on the future of the game."

Let me get this straight.

The SFL are being asked to vote to suspend the rules of the game for the benefit of one club, and not only that, the SPL fans are being asked to pay for this?

These proposals and the threats they contain are totally biased to again give a newclub rangers an immediate advantage over any club that went before them in their first application to the SFL and makes a complete mockery of the Scottish game. The board of the SFA/SFL need to stand down immediatly to preserve integrity im sure Charles Green could find positions for them somewhere such has been the scale of exodus from rangers closed and given their patently obvious passion of sevco 5088. The clubs should stand firm and refuse to be beaten down by threats or bought off by finiancial bribes and refuse to enter any spl2. Scottish football is dead if the wishes of 85-90% of its paying customers are trodden all over for the minority newclub and their desire to dominate through cheating just like the old defunct rangers fc. The sfa/sfl are seriously undermining the morals and principals of every paying punter and calling the bluff of the fans of every established club in Scotland. On their heads be it!!!

Despite some of the arguments put forward it really does boil down to whether its all about the cash or if football means more than that. Its shaping up to be interesting to say the least. Teams that abstain (my team Dundee included) because of a 'conflict of interest' are hiding because all Scottish clubs have some kind of vested interest in the outcome of where this ends up. I hope all the clubs who have a vote stand up and vote for what most fans want. SAY NO TO NEWCO

Nope, that is not what is happening at all. They are looking at saving the skins of clubs that would go under if rangers went into division 3 or out of the game altogether. What is being planned is to the detriment of not advantage to Rangers. In fact the one club that would definitely benefit is Celtic.They would keep Rangers in the SPL and then handicap them to such an extent they could not compete, Celtic would continually compete in Europe with a.n. other and other clubs would remain financially viable. You're all looking in a mirror and reading the writing backwards.

Yes definitely division 3. That would be about right. The gerrymandering is not something I approve of or wish for - not in my name, but those in positions of responsibility believe it and are attempting to address it. This whole saga has a long way to run yet, I don't really care any more about the outcome but gentlemen whatever victory you feel you may gain will be pyrrhic, but you're not listening, are you.

Dear Mr Longmuir, your proposal to move the Newco to first Div is a little premature. Before you can start talking with any certainty several things have to happen
The SPL have to officially kick newco out of their league.
Newco have yet to be given a license by the SFA in order to operate anywhere in any league in Scottish Football. This presumes that The Newco application has tick marks in all the correct boxes. Newco directors and investors have to pass the fit and proper person criteria without blemish.The biz plan has to pass scrutiny, the finances have to be set up corporately to the SFA satisfaction. The Business name, I would imagine, would require clearance of the name by the proper authority, under which company and team would do business.
Then and only then can you talk to your, members about Newco Gers and where they may it in the scheme of things.

Which rules are those, precisely? There also seems to be a little confusion about what the SPL's role is. Are they voting to "kick out" a club that doesn't exist, or one that has transferred ownership?
