Queen of the South have unveiled Allan Johnston as the club’s new manager.

The team will play in Division Two next season but will be aiming for an immediate return to the First Division this term.

Johnston takes over from Gus MacPherson who was unable to keep the Doonhamers in the division following a difficult season.

It is the former Hearts, Rangers and Toulouse winger’s first job in management having occupied the role of player/coach this year.

Chairman Billy Hewitson told the club’s official website: “Alan brings with him a wealth of experience having played in Europe, England and Scotland.

“He was player coach last year at the club and always made his intentions know that he wanted to move into Management.

“He will be appointing a strong experienced No2 to allow him to still play if he feels he can pass on his knowledge of the game to youngsters in the squad.

“We are delighted with the appointment and will give him every support to ensure he and the club meet our target of bouncing back up to the First Division."
