Dundee’s Rab Douglas will be hoping to add another Scottish Cup medal to his list of honours when his side take on fellow First Division side Raith Rovers in tomorrow’s quarter final.

The former Celtic keeper won the silverware on three occasions with the Parkhead side, but knows it will be a tough challenge to overcome Raith Rovers, not to mention meeting an SPL side in the semis.

“It’s a great game to be involved in; it’s a wee distraction from the league,” said Douglas, who played in the 2003 Uefa Cup final with Celtic.

“The league is the priority but [the Scottish Cup game] is against a team from our own division and it’s down to us. It will be a hard game because the previous games with Raith have been really good games this season so they’ll be coming here looking to win and we’ll obviously be looking to progress as well.”

Dundee are currently sitting top of the First Division and have won the Challenge Cup, beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-2 in the final, while hoping to continue their run of form in the Scottish Cup.

“I think if you had offered fans the chance to be top of the league by six points, win a cup and be in the quarters of the Scottish Cup so far you would take that it’s a reasonably successful season. However, Douglas insists progressing to the SPL next season is the priority.

“For us the big picture is progressing in the league. Obviously Saturday is a great game. It’s great for the fans and its gives you a wee distraction and a boost. You want to progress in that [Scottish cup] as well but for me I think the league is the big one,” Douglas said.

“I think we’ve played a few extra games. Getting to the final of the Challenge Cup and progressing in the other cups, it’s great. That’s what you want. There’s no point in turning up to play football if you don’t want to win.

“They’ve had a few good results and that’s one thing you’ve got to give them the utmost respect. John McGlynn has got them organised and they’re a really good team. Beating Aberdeen up there after going so close to winning it at Raith shows they can compete and that’s what it’s going to be about.

“It’s great to be involved in cup finals and that’s what you want to be involved in a club like Dundee. We’ve got to go and compete with Raith first and foremost on Saturday. I’ve won a couple of Scottish Cups, it’s a great bonus.”
