Hearts are in discussions with former player Edgaras Jankauskas about becoming assistant to new manager John McGlynn.

The 37-year-old former Lithuania international retired last year, and spent last season working at Lokomotiv Moscow with Jose Couceiro - who was himself a candidate for the Hearts manager's job recently.

STV understands that the Tynecastle club are expected to announce his appointment in the coming days, although Gary Locke is set to remain as first team coach.

Jankauskas, who was capped 56 times by Lithuania, spent two seasons at Tynecastle as a player, winning the Scottish cup under fellow Lithuanian Valdas Ivanauskas.

The striker was at the club when McGlynn took charge in an interim basis in 2006. The former Raith Rovers boss was unveiled as Hearts new manager today after a six year spell in charge of the First Division side.
