Dundee United have released a statement confirming the club would not support the creation of an SPL2.
Ahead of the league’s AGM on Monday, speculation suggested there was the possibility of top flight clubs overturning their previous rejection of Charles Green’s new company or forming a new second tier.
On July 4 clubs voted overwhelmingly against the membership transfer to inherit the old company’s SPL share.
And on Friday, Scottish Football League chairmen accepted the Ibrox club as an associate member of the Scottish Football League, placing them in Division Three.
Hearts managing director David Southern and Dundee chief executive Scot Gardiner both dismissed the idea of a U-turn on the issue.
And United have moved to clarify their stance on the issue, insisting the SFL's decision must be respected.
A club statement read: “Following yesterday's democratic vote by the SFL clubs in favour of admitting The Rangers Football Club as an associate member of the SFL, but with the Third Division being the only acceptable position, Dundee United will now focus on our upcoming campaign while working together with the other SPL clubs to ensure the stability of the SPL and Scottish football in what will be an uncertain and extremely challenging financial environment.
“For the avoidance of doubt, following yesterday's vote, the club would not support any counter proposals for the formation of SPL 2 or regarding any other route for The Rangers Football Club to join the SPL.
“Now is the time for everyone to be united as one and we ask our supporters to stand alongside us as we face the challenges ahead.”
