St Johnstone have confirmed talks with former QPR striker Rowan Vine are ongoing after his impressive display in Saturday's friendly win over Bristol City.

The 29 year old netted both goals as a trialist in Saints' 2-1 win at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, prompting Lomas to confirm his interest in tying the striker to a contract with the Perth side.

A tweet from the club's official account on Monday confirmed talks with Vine, who Birmingham paid Luton Town £3 million for in 2007, are progressing.

Speaking to The Courier Lomas said: "I tried to get Rowan at Christmas. I know what he's all about. We'll try and get something done but I'll have to wait until the chairman says 'yes'.

"We've got a great set of boys so anybody that comes here generally enjoys it. I've said on many occasions we need four or five (attackers) to compete where we were last year and that hasn't changed."

Vine is available as a free agent after leaving QPR at the end of last season, having spent loan spells at five different clubs over the past two years, and has been training with St. Johnstone as they prepare for Saturday's SPL opener against Hearts.
