Rab Douglas says the Dundee fans can play a big part in helping the club remain in the SPL.
The Dens Park side marked their return to the top flight with a 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock with nearly 3,000 travelling supporters making the trip to Ayrshire.
Douglas says the players were thrilled with the backing they received from the stands and hopes they will continue to back the team throughout the campaign.
And after taking a point at Rugby Park, Douglas is hoping the Dark Blues can kick on.
He said: “We had better chances than them. We just need that bit of quality.
"We were set up as a team to make an impact in the First Division, but after being invited in the boys have very much held their own. It is now up to us to maintain it.
"It was brilliant to be back in the SPL after being invited back and hopefully we can bring something to the party.
"If the crowd continue backing us like that then we will be fine.
"I thought what the boys lacked in quality and experience we made up for with desire."
Now 40, Douglas has plenty of SPL experience from his time with Celtic.
He still feels he has plenty to offer, seven years since he last featured in the top flight.
Douglas said: "It doesn't seem that long ago, but it felt like seven years with a couple of minutes to go.
"Hopefully, the boys can trust me. It was great to make the saves as it is surprising to be back in the SPL at 40.
"I loved every minute of it and hopefully can keep doing that."
