Kilmarnock take former Real Madrid youth player Borja Perez on trial

Former Real Madrid youth player Borja Perez is training with Kilmarnock as he bids to win a deal with the SPL side.

Perez, 30, will feature in James Fowler’s testimonial against Sheffield Wednesday at Rugby Park tonight.

The forward is best known for helping lower league side Alcorcón beat his former employers Real 4-0 in a Copa del Rey tie in 2009. He has also had spells with Alicante and Valladolid but is now a free agent after leaving Alcorcón this summer.

Kenny Shiels’ side are looking for an attacker after leading striker Paul Heffernan was ruled out for ten weeks with a broken collarbone.

The Ayrshire side also lost Dieter van Tornhout and Dean Shiels from last season’s League Cup winning squad and opened their SPL campaign with a 0-0 draw against Dundee.

Shiels said: “The chairman says there’s no money which I have to accept. We’ve got a trial player in tonight from Spain who is a support striker.

"He [Perez] has got the attributes to play in our team but we have to see if that come out [in the game] and see the financial side is.

"We miss Dean Shiels really badly and we need someone who can unlock defences and we weren’t able to do that on Saturday."
