Stephen Hughes has targetted a top-six finish after completing his move to Aberdeen.
The former Motherwell midfielder has joined the Dons on a two-and-a-half-year contract following a trial in the North-East.
Hughes will go straight into the squad due to face Dunfermline in tomorrow's SPL clash, and the 29-year-old is aiming for maximum points to help his new side in their ambitions of a top six finish.
"That should always be the aim. We want to finish as high up the table as well and make the top six.
"It will be difficult because there's a lot of teams doing well, but there's been a lot of good results here lately, a good result at Ibrox, and if we can get on a good run, hopefully we can kick on in the second half of the season."
The Dons are currently eighth in the division, but sit just a single point from sixth spot, and Hughes is only too aware of the size of the potential of the club he has just joined.
Hughes said: "When I was at Motherwell and Rangers, coming up here it was always a difficult place to come, a big club and a lot of teams raise their game when they come here.
"That shows you it's a big club and that's where you want to be. You want to have that expectation level every year to get into the top six and get into Europe."
Although Hughes has not played since January 2 he has declared himself fit to play should he be called on tomorrow.
"I'm available to play, but the boys had a good result last week so I don't know what he (Craig Brown) is going to do," he said.
Aberdeen also confirmed that they had warded off interest of Manchester United to conclude a new deal for Scotland youth captain Craig Storie. The 16-year-old has been at Pittodrie for the last six years.
