Celtic have been linked with a transfer swoop for Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere as speculation increases over Tony Mowbray’s shopping list. Reports suggest that Mowbray’s assistant Mark Venus has already been down south assessing the young midfielder.
At just 17-year-old Wilshere is one of the brightest prospects in the English game but is being drip-fed into the Premier League by manager Arsene Wenger.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed a handful of appearances in domestic and European tournaments last season but has been limited to just one league run-out so far this season.
Now the Daily Express have reported that Mowbray will offer Wenger the chance to blood Wilshere during a six-month loan spell in the SPL. Mowbray loaned Jay Simpson from Wenger while he was managing West Bromwich Albion and the two are on good terms.
Despite their position at the top of the league Mowbray has come under pressure for his side’s faltering results and is set for a busy January transfer window as he builds a side which he hopes will deliver the SPL title in his first season in charge.
The Celtic manager has already secured the services of Korean midfielder Ki Sung Yong and is running the rule over a number of other players including Tours’ Olivier Giroud and Coventry’s Leon Best.
Striker Scott McDonald has been linked to Wigan in a move which could facilitate the introduction of some new faces at Parkhead.
