Celtic made a bid to sign Franck Queudrue before the transfer window closed. The French defender says he was made an offer by Neil Lennon but opted not to move to the Scottish Premier League.
Queudrue, who spent nine years in England, has signed for Ligue 1 side Lens but says he had a number of options available during the summer. He said that the opportunity to return to his first club was too great to turn down though.
"It has always been my club at heart,” he told Lens’ official website.
“I had other proposals, including Glasgow Celtic who was willing to take me, but I have not hesitated half a second to accept the proposal of the president Gervais Martel.
“Now it's up to me to prove things on the field!"
The Frenchman, who can play at left-back or in the centre of defence, was available on a free transfer after being released by Birmingham City at the end of his contract. He had previously had spells at Fulham and Middlesbrough.
Queudrue is one of a number of options explored by Neil Lennon as he looked to revamp his defence and add experience to his squad. Celtic pursued Sol Campbell before the former England international signed for Newcastle.
Lennon clinched the signing of Honduras international Emilio Izaguirre to fill the troublesome left-back position and the 24-year old has excelled since making the move to Glasgow. Experience was added to the back line with the signing of Sweden international Daniel Majstorovic from AEK Athens on a free transfer.
