Dundee United Cup heroes are being targeted by Gordon Strachan’s Middlesbrough and the ex-Celtic manager could test Peter Houston with a cash bid for three players. Craig Conway, Garry Kenneth and Morgaro Gomis have all been marked as potential recruits for the Championship side, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reports that Middlesbrough are ready to recruit from Scotland once more after raiding the SPL for players last summer and in January. Steven McManus spent the season on loan at Teesside while Strachan signed Scott McDonald, Chris Killen, Barry Robson, Lee Miller and Willo Flood from the Scottish top flight.
Hearts winger Andrew Driver and Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson were linked with summer moves to the Riverside, as were Hibs’ Sol Bamba and Celtic’s Mark Wilson but it is claimed that United’s Hampden stars have been added to Strachan’s shortlist.
Conway scored twice in the cup final win over Ross County, capping an impressive season where he scored six times overall and was an important part of United’s surge to third place in the SPL.
Kenneth, who could be seen by Boro as a replacement for McManus when he returns to Celtic, has been a commanding figure at the heart of the Untied defence, ensuring the Tannadice side have not been hit too hard by the loss of Lee Wilkie to the injury that ended his career.
United boss Peter Houston has now agreed a deal to become permanent manager of the club and will be preparing for European football next season. His wish will be to keep the core of his successful team but said he accepts that if he receives a big offer for any of his players then he will have to let them move on.
“Nobody has bid for any of our players but we’re a selling club and that’s the way it is,” he told the Record.
