Scott Severin has revealed that he is likely to play in the centre of defence for Dundee United. The former Scotland international signed a two year deal at Tannadice on Tuesday, completing a free transfer move from Watford.
Severin made his name as a central midfield player but has often played as a defender in the recent past. He said that Peter Houston had indicated that he would be a replacement for centre-back Andy Webster, who returned to Rangers in the summer after a season on loan at the Scottish Cup winners.
“I am happy to play wherever Peter Houston wants me to,'' Severin told The Courier.
"But from speaking to the manager it does look like I'll be at the back, which is fine.
"People said to me six or seven years ago that they thought it was my best position anyway, and as the majority of the games I have played in the last year or so have been at centre-half, it's not a problem.''
Severin will become the only player to have played in every SPL season so far, following spells at Aberdeen, Hearts and Kilmarnock. The 31-year old said Houston had been trying to persuade him to move north for some time but that he had wanted to fight for a place at Watford.
"I'd spoken to the manager a few times over the summer so it's been on and off for a while,'' he told the newspaper.
"He asked if there was an opportunity to come on loan but I wanted to give it another crack at Watford. It didn't work out there so the opportunity came up again and I was delighted to join. I'm happy to be back to the SPL.
"In England the first thing I did was look at the results up here, so I just can't wait to get started again.''
