arius Zaliukas has said Lithuania can defy the odds and challenge for second place in Scotland’s Euro 2012 qualification group. Craig Levein’s team face the fourth seeds in Kaunas tonight and Zaliukas is ready to help his country to a win.
Zaliukas is set to win his 22nd cap against Scotland on Friday night. The Hearts defender admitted that the game would be tough but said the potential was there for a campaign to remember.
"It's going to be probably the most important game of my career and I hope for a sweet victory," Zaliukas said.
"They will be looking to win and will go forward all the time but we are prepared for that.
"All [Scotland’s] players are a threat but we are not a bad team and we're looking forward to winning this game.
"It's not going to be easy but we're looking forward to fighting with Czech Republic for second place. I don't think anyone can compare with Spain but we will see."
The defender is putting his club situation to one side while on international duty. Zaliukas is out of contract at Hearts in December and talks over a new deal have hit an impasse.
The player denied he had asked for a huge wage and hinted that there could be a resolution soon.
"I would like to stay but we have some issues and we are working on it," he said.
