Hibs striker Anthony Stokes has told warned Darren Barr and Scott Arfield that they would struggle to get a game if they come to the club.

The former Arsenal player was speaking in the wake of John Hughes' admission that he was still interested in Barr, who he had brought through at Falkirk.

Arfield has also been linked with a move to re-join his old boss in Edinburgh. But Stokes is confident that the standard of players at the club means the talented duo would not be guaranteed a place.

He said: "They're two top-class players and I think they'd improve any side they went into. But would they get a chance here if they came?

"Because you have to look at the squad we have. The midfielders we have are very good, I think the centre-halves we have have been tremendous this year.

"I think they'd be great for the squad but there'll still be a lot of competition because they'd have to be playing well week in, week out to get into this team at the minute."

Stokes’ experience of the pair comes from his loan spell at Falkirk three years ago.

He added: "Obviously, the gaffer's going to decide what he wants to do. Maybe he'll look at one or two in January but I'll be very surprised if they get the two of them to be honest with you."
