Hibernian’s latest signing has revealed that he almost joined Hearts on transfer deadline day. The forward agreed a loan deal with John Hughes side just hours before the transfer window closed after weighing up offers from a number of clubs, including Hibs’ city rivals Hearts.
The 27-year old, who was out of the first team picture at Plymouth Argyle, said his future was decided as soon as he heard Hibs were interested. The move reunites Gow with manager Hughes, who was his boss at Falkirk.
“The whole thing was really done on the last day of the transfer window,” the striker explained.
“There had actually been other teams I was talking to but once I had spoken to John I knew I was only really interested in coming to Hibs.
“I really did not want to go anywhere else, there was a few things agreed with other clubs but I wanted to come here.”
The former Rangers player admitted that Edinburgh rivals Hearts had been amongst those to make an offer. He also revealed that part of the attraction at Hibs was the style of attacking football that Hughes has committed himself to.
”There was a possibility of going to Hearts and to be honest it was nearly a done deal up to the last day there but once Hibs came in I knew where I wanted to go,” Gow said.
“I wanted to move back home and obviously I was good friends with the gaffer having worked with him before so there was an opportunity for me to come and play for a good footballing side.”
