Motherwell new boy Alan Gow has said he won’t be affected by criticism from Swindon Town. The English club’s director Jeremy Wray branded Gow a “disgrace” and said he had already agreed to move to Swindon before increasing his financial demands.
Gow denied he had any agreement in place with the club and said he had would not lose any sleep over Wray’s comments.
"I went down a few days ago to speak to them,” the forward said.
"Somebody has obviously said that I went and agreed [a contract] but I never agreed. I'm an honest guy .
"I said I would go down and speak to the manager and have a look at the place but the deal didn't suit me so I came back up the road. Good luck to them. If some guy wants to slag me off then fire away.."
The former Falkirk and Rangers player was in demand over the summer before opting to join Motherwell as the transfer window drew to a close. St Mirren made an offer to take Gow to Paisley and Kilmarnock and Hibs both had contact with the player. However, Motherwell manager Craig Brown invited the striker to watch his side’s match against Odense and later persuaded him to move to Lanarkshire.
Gow said he was targeting a regular first team place with Motherwell and wanted to show he was injury free before considering his future. He has signed an initial six-month contract at Fir park.
"I don't really know where it can take me,” he admitted. "I'll just take one step at a time.
"I need to come back and play and show everybody that I can be fit for a season at least.
"I've signed a six-month contract and I need to prove to the management that I can get myself into the team and stay there."
The new signing said he was delighted to finally decide on a club and said he hoped he had made the correct choice after what has been a stop-start career so far.
"It's good to sort my future out and hopefully I can get back playing as soon as possible," he said.
"I've just been keeping myself fit and waiting to sign somewhere eventually. I'm just looking forward to playing now.
"I spoke to a few clubs. But I've probably made a few moves that I shouldn't have and this time I wanted to take my time making a decision and find somewhere that suited me."
