New Deal: Beasley eager for new contract Pic: ©STV
Damarcus Beasley is desperate to sign a new contract with Rangers and hopes the promise of new investment in the Ibrox side can bring with it the promise of a new deal. The USA international is out of contract in the summer but is eager to stay at the debt-ridden club.
Sir David Murray is currently considering two bids for his 92 per cent stake in the club and should it go through Beasley is optimistic the new money will allow the Gers to retain his services.
"I'd definitely like to stay,” said the 28-year-old. "That has still to be sorted between the boys upstairs and my management but I have always said I want to stay at Rangers.
"I have been unfortunate with injuries but it is a great club and I love playing here. If they set up talks with me I would sit down and talk but nothing has happened yet.
"The potential takeover offers fresh hope for stability but I don't want to think about that too much. We just have to concentrate on the football side and let that take its course.
"Someone coming in and buying the club is the business side of it - we are footballers and our job is to perform out there every Saturday or Tuesday. Hopefully it all gets worked out for the greater good of the club.
"We signed players like Kris Boyd and other guys who have been here a while and I hope they can offer these guys contracts so they can stay here for a long time."
Beasley helped Rangers come back to beat St Mirren 3-1 at Ibrox on Saturday. Walter Smith’s men now sit ten points clear at the top of the SPL with a game in hand and Beasley insists the priority is retaining the title.
"We know what can be achieved in the next seven games,” said Beasley who starred for America against Holland last week. “If we keep playing the way we are and keep winning we won't have to take it to the limit.
"We've got to keep pushing and keep our mentality strong. That's the way it has been for the last couple of months. It was tough playing another game right after last Wednesday, so soon after coming back from injury as well.
"But coming back after Amsterdam I felt good and got another 65 minutes under my belt - I felt fresh and strong. Now I hope I can get back to form."
