Maurice Edu has warned his Rangers team-mates to forget their looming tie with Manchester United and instead concentrate on taking three points from their weekend clash with Hamilton Academical.
The SPL title holders will travel to England on Monday for their opening Champions League game but must go to New Douglas Park on Saturday, as they try to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.
The prospect of taking on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side is understandably an attractive proposition to the Rangers squad but the American midfielder says it is important to take care of domestic business first and foremost.
“The Old Trafford game is obviously going to be exciting and we're all looking forward to that,” said Edu. “But at the same time you've got to take care of business before that.
“We're not looking past this game this weekend - that's our focus right now. After that game we'll turn our attention to the game at Old Trafford.”
Hamilton picked up their first three points of the season shortly before the international break, winning at Inverness after two successive 4-0 defeats to Aberdeen and Hearts.
With Rangers having found the net seven times in their opening three league games, more goals could be the order of the day in the lunchtime kick-off. But Edu is respectful of the challenge they will pose, especially after two difficult games in Lanarkshire last season.
“They're going to pose a problem for us," Edu said of the Accies. “They're always a well-organised team. I think this game's no different.
“It will be down to us to impose ourselves on the game early and try and dictate the tone of the game early on.
“I think we have enough within our squad to come up with a good result there, it's just a matter of imposing ourselves on the game.”
