SFL president Jim Ballantyne calls on cool heads for newco decision

Scottish Football League president Jim Ballantyne has said it is a time for cool heads as the board meets to decide the way forward.

The SFL board is meeting at Hampden today to discuss how to handle an application for a new member, which is likely to come about when the SPL elevate a replacement for Rangers to their league.

Mr Ballantyne said that the clubs will meet next Thursday to vote on who to accept into the league, and what division they would play in.

He said: “We have a lot of thinking to do following everything that has happened in the last two days. We are looking at everybody’s opinions from our meeting on Tuesday.

“As far as I’m concerned it’s a vote of the Scottish Football League clubs on what they wish to do with the SFL, and that’s what the clubs will decide.”

In response to SFA chief Stewart Regan’s comment that the only viable option is to have Rangers in Division One, Mr Ballantyne said it would be impossible for the comments not to be noticed by his members.

He said: “There are things happening on the periphery and these will be noticed and may affect people’s views or may not.

“I think just now is a time for cool heads.”
