Dorin Goian says he won’t play for a Rangers newco if they start the season in the Third Division.

The Romanian defender had indicated he would have been willing to play for the club if they had been accepted to the second tier of Scottish football.

Speculation continues over the possible creation of an SPL2, with top flight clubs set to meet at the national stadium on Monday.

However SFL chairmen voted to send Charles Green’s new company to the bottom tier of the league structure after a vote at Hampden on Friday.

Speaking after hearing the decision, Goian said: “I am not playing at the fourth level- there’s no question of that.

“I am on my way back and I will meet the president of the club and I will learn more.

“My agent has already spoken with other teams but nothing has been agreed yet.

“I’d have stayed if it was the First Division – but not this.”
