Paul Lawrie finished second at the Dubai World Championship after shooting a final round 67.
The Scot finished on -17 for the championship, two shots behind Spain’s Alvaro Quiros who sealed victory with an eagle on the final hole.
Lawrie was level in second going on to the 18th green but a superb birdie putt earned him the outright runners-up spot.
England’s Luke Donald was third, becoming the first player to top the money list on both sides of the Atlantic in the same season.
The Aberdonian, ranked 163 in the world, played his way into contention with rounds of 65, 73 and 66.
And he pushed Quiros all the way in the opening stages on Sunday.
Lawrie, who in March ended nine years without a win, rounded off a superb front-nine 31 with a par which took him above the Spaniard.
He led with seven to play but a bogey on the 12th hole was to cost him dear.
His final opportunity came with a birdie chance at 17 but he placed it wide, before Quiros ended any doubt with a flourish at the finish.
