Record breaker: Paterson has amassed 750 points ahead of his landmark 100th Scotland appearance.

Dan Parks has earned a recall to the Scotland side for Saturday’s Six Nations trip to Cardiff to take on Wales. The Glasgow Warriors player is in at fly-half in place of Phil Godman in one of three changes made by coach Andy Robinson, following the 18-9 loss to France at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Max Evans and Moray Low have also been dropped from the team, with Euan Murray and Rory Lamont named in their place. Sean Lamont moves to outside centre to replace Evans, with his brother Rory named on the left wing.

Co-captain Mike Blair is on the bench after an injury lay-off in what will be Chris Paterson’s 100th Scotland appearance, making him the first ever Scottish international to reach the milestone.

With the French having dominated the territory game at Murrayfield, Robinson revealed that he had drafted Park into his team to force an improvement in that department against the Welsh.

"We needed to improve our owning of territory, winning the territorial battle and marrying the two together of being able to play with the ball in hand but also looking to be able to dominate territory,” said Robinson. "We didn't do that well enough last week and while we showed some really good attacking intent, we turned too many balls over.

"Dan's coming in not just to kick the ball - we still want to move it, we still want to play with the ball in hand."

Robinson also explained his decision to shift Sean Lamont - Scotland's best player on Sunday - from wing to beef up the centre.

"Sean's played at centre for Llanelli, so he's had the ability to play there," Robinson said. "He's very physical; we think there's going to be a big physical battle in the centres but also in the way that Wales defend, they really do rush up hard."

Robinson also paid tribute to Paterson, who he worked with previously at Edinburgh before taking over the Scotland job, ahead of the record point scorer’s landmark appearance.

"I've really enjoyed working with Chris over the last couple of years,” said Robinson. "He's a great professional both on the pitch and also off it.

"He thoroughly deserves the honour and the tributes bestowed upon him because of the way that he's performed consistently with a number of different coaches."
