Scotland 15 - 15 England FULL TIME
Six Nations Championship, Murrayfield, Saturday March 13 2010
80" Flood is in the pocket...and it's charged down. Scotland kick the ball into touch and the final whistle is blown.
I am an absolute nervous wreck. The tension in those final minutes was just incredible and Scotland have escaped with a draw. The home dominated the match, but it was England who had the final minutes and exerted immense pressure on the Scottish defence. That really was a performance full of the passion and grit that we expect from this fixture. I'm sure Andy Robinson will have something to say about the performance of Marius Jonker and his refusal to show a card on numerous occassions despite repeated warnings to the English team. Everone in Edinburgh can go home (well, ok, to the pub)knowing that they've been thoroughly entertained by both sides who put their bodies on the line at all costs
80" Time is up, but England have the ball. Tait attacks. Is there going to be a hero?
80" We're into the last minute now. It's so tense at Murrayfield
79" England are back on the attack and Foden looks dangerous. Lamont makes the steal and Scotland break out, but the ball's knocked on and England will have the scrum
76" Scotland break with Godman. He had Evans flying up on his outside, but the pass was never given. PENALTY Scott Lawson penalised for holding his opponent back and Flood's going for the posts again. From just inside the Scotland half Flood hits it, but it drops inches short. I can't take much more of this tension
75" Lawes is on for England
74" England on the front foot now, but Foden is ushered into touch. What a nail-biting end to the match (just as mine have managed to grow back after the game in Cardiff)
72" Parks and Jacobsen off, Godman and Cross on
71" Scotland have it on the England 22". Parks prods a kick closer and brilliantly as Kellock gets back to his feet after treatment and catches the ball and transforms defence into attack. Heroic stuff
70" Kellock's down after a huge hit as Scott Lawson breaks through. It's edge of the seat stuff here
65" Ford off, Scott Lawson on. Barclay hits the line well, but you feel Scotland need a score here. They have a PENALTY and Jonker gives yet another warning to Borthwick. This is getting unbelieveable as another English player escapes without a yellow card. Parks has the chance from a long way out on the left touchline, but it's off the post again. Unbelieveable stuff. Scotland recover the ball off the post, but fail to score. They have to settle for the penalty and another opportunity from straight infront. No yellow card once again as several of the English players strayed offside. Parks kicks it and we're all square SCOTLAND 15 - 15 ENGLAND
63" Moody on for Haskell and England have a scrum five metres out. Easter picks up, but is driven backwards. PENALTY given against Murray for not rolling away. It's easy for Flood and England lead once more SCOTLAND 12 - 15 ENGLAND
60" Flutey makes a break and Cueto threatens, but the Scottish defence scrambles well, until Jacobsen puts his hands where they shouldn't be. PENALTY - England kick to the corner. Cusiter off, Lawson on.
58" PENALTY - England make the steal through Hartley and Flood will have another chance to put England ahead. From just about half way, it doesn't have the legs and the scoreboard remains the same
57" Scotland get the maul going and are back in opposition territory
56" Big roar from the home fans, but England clear well through Toby Flood
56" After a long delay for the head knock to Monye and Brown, England have a scrum on their own line
55" Another magical Cusiter break releases Brown, but as he stoops to collect the pass, Ugo Monye collides with him. It was a really sore clash of heads and both players have retired injured. Youngs and MacDonald are on to the field
52" Cusiter and Morrison combine to break into the England 22". Advantage coming to the Scots and England get yet another warning about a yellow card. Once more Jonker keeps his cards in his pocket. Parks strides up, but his kick comes back off the post
51" PENALTY - Parks responds immediately and slots it from the near touchline. We're locked at 12 points all
49" PENALTY - Flood knocks his first attempt through the posts to give England the lead - SCOTLAND 9-12 ENGLAND
47" Another steal by Scotland at the base of the ruck, but Cusiter kicks out on the full
45" Big moment potentially - Wilkinson off, Flood on, just as Jonny was beginning to assert his authority on the game
43" Nice running by Max Evans in midfield. Then Southwell breaks the line.Evans makes a second break, but England get the turnover and clear well through Wilkinson
41" - The teams are out. My guess would be that the English players ears are still trying to recover from a blast from Johnson. The Scots will fancy more of the same, but still must be cautious of the English threat. Right on que - England kick off and win a penalty at the first breakdown. Wilkinson takes his time and slots it from 38 metres. SCOTLAND 9 - 9 ENGLAND
HALF TIME - That has been a fantastic forst half from the men in blue. They have dominated in nearly every area. England can consider themselves fortunate to only be three points adrift as all the rugby has been played by Andy Robinson's side. The key in the second half will be whether the Scots can penetrate the English try line, but there has certainly been enough there to suggest that Scotland are the better side.
40" Parks is in the pocket. It certainly wasn't a pretty strike, but it went over the posts, just. SCOTLAND 9 - 6 ENGLAND
40" Scotland go blind fromthe scrum, but it ends up in slow ball. They'll need to go through the phases once more
39" England have made double the amount of tackles than Scotland. Importantly they've missed 9 to Scotland's 1
39" Great continuity by Scotland and De Luca releases Evans, but the winger runs out of space. Scotland win a scrum centre field on the England 22"
38" Another chorus of boos greets the away fans' efforts at "swing low"
37" Scotland have gone through 10 phases before Parks has another go at a drop goal. Once again it's short and wide from a long way out
36" Ross Ford on the burst, pierces a hole and the Morrison skips out of the tackle of Flutey
32" Hartley throws a punch at Ross Ford and the touch judge has his flag out. I can't believe that was only a warning. At least the penalty should have been reversed, at most the hooker should have seen yellow. As result England have the penalty and Wilkinson nails it SCOTLAND 6 - 6 ENGLAND
28" Dylan Hartley throws not straight at the lineout with England in good position. From the resulting scrum there's a bit of a set-to, but eventually Parks clears
26" Huge ruck by the Scottish pack drives the English 8 off their own ball. Southwell's pass to Lamont goes into touch. telling sign from the Scottish forwards though. They look well up for this
25" Scotland are getting good ball, but Evans is dumped into touch by Care
23" Now it's Sean Lamont's turn to gain ground. The winger typically barges through for an evtra ten metres before Parks hooks a drop goal attempt from way out
22" Cusiter looks lively and snipes round the fringes before Southwell and Evans dance further down the touchline. Parks kicks across to the other side, but Monye does well with Brown bearing down on him
21" Huge hit by Kellock on Deacon. The England player doesn't like it and knocks on in the tackle
19" Another PENALTY against England, but no yellow card. There have been a number of infringements and you have to feel that next time Marius Jonker will go to his top pocket. Parks's kick is good and Scotland are rewarded for their effort. SCOTLAND 6 - 3 ENGLAND
16" Dan Parks sends a penalty just outside the English 22". Great take by Brown and Morrison is the battering ram. Parks's cross field kick finds Eans and Scotland are 5 metres out. It's a PENALTY against England and the crowd come to life once more. It's out wide so Parks elects to kick to the corner. Big lineout this one
14" PENALTY - Jim Hamilton penalised and it should be a straight forward kick for Wilkinson. Straight through - SCOTLAND 3-3 ENGLAND
13" Scotland looking to attack from deep and Max Evans finds himself up against Hartley. His pass to Parks doesn't go to hand and England have a scrum on the Scotland 22"
11" The turf is cutting up at the scrums, but England release Monye and then Easter before a chip through for Hartley makes it's way into touch. England flexed their muscles there for a minute though
10" Parks misses touch with the penalty and England have possession on halfway
9" Storming run from his own 22" by Johnnie Beattie and Scotland have another penalty inside their own half. The home crowd appreciate the rugby a lot more than they appreciate "Swing low, Sweet chariot" as the England rugby anthem is heard for the first time this afternoon
6" PENALTY - Great take by the Gloucester-bound, Kelly Brown. The English forwards pile in and are off their feet. It gives a first chance of the day to Dan Parks from the ten metre line. The crowd like it and the flags are raised. SCOTLAND 3-0 ENGLAND
4" The English lineout looks to be working well too as Borthwick takes another one
2" Monye threatens from Wilkinson's inside pass, but the winger knocks on in the tackle. Scrum down for the first time. England push too soon and Scoitland have the free kick
1" The first Scottish lineout follows form and finds a navy blue hand
1" An early test for Armitage sees the full back respond well with a kick to touch
00" - To a massive roar, Dan Parks kicks off. We are under way and the atmosphere is absolutely electric
16:59 - We've been throught the formalities and kick off is upon us. Cracking rendition of the anthems is followed by an aerial fly-over. As if we needed an more reason to get excited
16:54 - The England players arrive in the tunnel...And here they come, led by their giant of a captain, Steve Borthwick
16:52 - As the announcer goes through the teams the biggest cheer of the lot goes to Dan Parks - What a change in fortunes for the Cardiff-bound stand-off and how quickly do people change their opinions. It's not that long ago his inclusion was greeted by jeers around Murrayfield
16:50 - Murrayfield is almost full. Great anticipation amongst everyone in Edinburgh's West End
16:48 - Oh, to be a fly on the wall in either dressing room right now. It must be such a tense place with so many different characters shoing their various ways to prepare for one of the biggest games of their lives
16:46 - What do people think of Jonny Wilkinson's form. I think even a non-firing Wilkinson is more of a threat than Toby Flood, but he really hasn't recaptured the form that made him one of the World's best ever players. He hasn't had the best tournament so far, but there's always a fear that it could all come together again today
16:45 - Fifteen minutes to go until kick off. The Scotland players have finished their warm up and leave the pitch to a round of applause form the home support. I'm beginning to get a tad nervous myself
16:43 - We are currently being treated to some of the best moments of the late, great Bill McLaren's commentary that really lit up the game of rugby. What a legend - he will be sorely missed, but vividly remembered for his brilliance
16:41 - What are the areas to target in the England team? It is tough to say really - On paper it's a very attacking, exciting team, but they haven't clicked yet. The back row is a major strength, but that is mirrored in the Scotland side. It could be fascinating at the breakdown this afternoon. The scrum is one area I expect Scotland to dominate - It was good in Italy and the trio of Jacobsen, Ford and Murray must be one of the best scrummageing units in World rugby
16:38 - You have to wonder how Andy Robinson is feeling right now. Sacked by his countrymen and now in charge of their ancient rivals. He has played it down in the press and I think that he will just see it as his XV versus another XV, but surely he has to play the Auld Enemy card as he rallies the troops in the changing room before kick off
16:36 - If Scotland are to win today, they'll need a big performance from Dan Parks. The fly half will win his 50th cap today and his reappearance on the scene in a Scotland jersey has been one of the plus points of the campaign so far
16:35 - England's record under Martin Johnson isn't particularly impressive either. In 17 matches, they've won 8 and lost 9
16:32 - Equally worrying is thay Scotland have only won one of their last nine Six Nations matches. That victory did come here, at Murrayfield against the English, so have faith!
16:31 - How long ago does it feel that Matt Giteau hooked his convertion to give Scotland the victory against Australia? The Scots haven't won since
16:30 - Half an hour to kick off now!
16:28 - Having grown up enjoying my rugby in the 90's, i was surprised to hear the overall head-to-head between today's two teams. Over the 127 contests it reads England 67, Scotland 42 and there have been 17 draws.
16:26 - There hasn't been a try scored in this fixture since 2004 so one would assume discipline will also be a key factor. You don't want to give Wilkinson too many easy ones in front of the post
16:24 - One of Scotland's main strengths this season has been the lineout. They've been successful with 32 of 43 on their own throw and they've stolen their fair share in the process. That has to be one area Andy Robinson will look to attack with today
16:20 - What are your thoughts on the lineup Andy Robinson has selected this afternoon? After his performance against the Ospreys last weekend, Ben Cairns must feel a little hard done by not to be involved. I fancied Nick De Luca to come in, but I thought it would be at 12 rather than 13. I guess graeme Morrison's ability in defence gave him the nod as Max Evans makes his way out to the wing
16:18 - I woke up this morning hoping for torrential rain in order to bring back the spirit of 2000, but Scotland are going to have to rely on their ability today to bring them through against The Auld Enemy
16:16 - I feel like a broken record, but it's another fantastic day for rugby. Stunning sunshine in Edinburgh today and there's no excuse for anything other than a classic game in prospect
16.14: Welcome to Murrayfield. It's Scotland v England today - a game that needs no introduction. It's simply means everything to everyone involved
