Greig Laidlaw is ready to display his versatility when he inherits the number 10 shirt for Scotland’s Six Nations clash with Wales.

The Edinburgh back has been named in Dan Parks’ place for the trip to Cardiff, after the fly-half announced his retirement from international rugby on Tuesday.

Laidlaw’s first two Scotland caps came at scrum-half but, having made a short appearance in his new position against England, he says he is ready to transfer his club form to the international stage.

"I thought it [his first Test start] would be as a nine, if I'm really honest," said Laidlaw. "But I'm really looking forward to the challenge of playing stand-off.

"It's not so much of a surprise now because I've been playing so much as a stand-off for Edinburgh and I feel as though I've been doing well."

Scotland head to Wales having lost their opening game against England, whereas their weekend opponents defeated Ireland last weekend.

"It's a big challenge," Laidlaw said of the fixture. "They've got great players in their side and had a great win at the weekend.

"I also believe Scotland have got great players. I think it's now time for Scotland to put in a few big performances and hopefully I can be part of that."
