With the Six Nations championship getting underway over the weekend, access to Scotland’s rugby stars has been somewhat trickier of late.
So to get some exclusive footage of the players and their training methods, the five thirty show gave Scotland captain Mike Blair a camera to show how he prepares in the week before an international test match.
First off winger Mike joins speedster Simon Webster for some sprint training.
“A week before the first test match against Wales, myself and Simon Webster are doing some extra running after we both had the last week off,” said Blair. “That’s us topped up and ready to go for next week’s preparation.”
Blair shows that it’s not all running and tackling though, taking some time out for a spot of table tennis.
“I’ve come back to my mum and dad’s house three days before we play against Wales,” said Blair. “I like to come back here and play against my wee brothers at table tennis and generally give them a good beating. Game on.”
As Mike demonstrates, he’s none to shabby with a bat in his hand either.
Having recently moved into to a plush new house, Mike has been hard at work with various jobs around the house. Mike explained: “Being a professional rugby player there’s plenty of time off, we moved into our house six months ago and I’m doing a fair bit of DIY.”
But the sports star gets caught tucking in to a slice of chocolate cake after a hard days tiling. “You can’t be good all the time, can you?” admits cheeky Blair.
Come on Blair and the boys!
