Andy Murray has truly made it. Forget the film stars, beauty queens, trophies, worldwide stardom, the imminent Wimbledon success (fingers crossed!). No, the boy from Dunblane has finally got his own dodgy song.
The song comes as the whole of Scotland and Britain get swept along with Murray as he takes a shot at the Wimbledon title. “Murray mania” is now truly reaching fever point, with the English crowds taking them to their hearts, while the Scots try to claim him for their own.
The song's called Volley Highway, and we’ve put it to a selection of some clips of Murray over the years. Written by Paul Johnstone from Shetland band Rock, Salt and Nails, the tune is an ode to Murray and his talents.
We’ll leave it to you to decide whether the semi-stalkerish song will be a smash or a racket.
The Shetland musician insists the song is good for a laugh, likening it to a cross between an Irn Bru ad and a Runrig track, but he’s dead serious about getting people behind the Murray.
Johnston said: "It's meant to be fun. We are not claiming it's Rabbie Burns, but in Homecoming year, the boy's doing good and it's easy to knock folk.
"He's quite serious and sometimes comes across as very focused, but you can't be No.3 in the world if you are not focused.
"Everyone in Scotland's wanting him to do well and we are keen to do our bit to support him."
Murray joins a long line of famous sporting Scots with their own song, like for instance, Ally McLeod and, erm… that time Jocky Wilson got on Top of the Pops when they accidentally used his picture for the backdrop to Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ “Jackie Wilson Says”.
Anyway, altogether now…
“First place with an ace he moved around with grace”
“Read a newspaper cutting blowing round in space”
“And it tells of the tale where Murray without fail”
“Tried for the finals to beat all his rivals”
