Andy Murray is set to return to Miami and resume a full training programme over the Christmas period with the hope that the hard work will pay off and make 2010 the year he adds the elusive grand slam title to his name.

Since 2008, Murray has gone from entering the top ten to reaching the finals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon and taking the title as the highest ranked British player since Fred Perry.

“It has been a good year,” Murray reflects. “It has been an improvement on the year before. A lot of things got better.

“I got to my highest ranking this year, number two, and won more tournaments than the year before and had a better record against the main players.”

The British number one had a couple of near misses this year in the finals of Australian Open and Wimbledon but is hopeful that he can turn those all-important few points, that made all the difference this year, around to his advantage in the 2010 season.

“Next year, the main focus is to try and win a grand slam and I plan on doing that.

“Experience will make a huge difference for me. I can obviously improve my game a lot which is exciting.

“I had a couple of tough losses in the slams this year but hopefully I will turn that around next year.

“It gives you motivation to work harder and get better so that’s why I’m going over to Miami early to get ready for the new season.”

The 22-year-old will spend Christmas in the US before travelling to Australia to prepare for the Australian Open and the beginning of his make or break year.
