Andy Murray breezed through his second round tie at the Australian Open, beating Edouard Roger-Vasselin in straight sets.
The British number one, who will face Michael Llodra at the next stage, made light work of the Frenchman, triumphing 6-1 6-4 6-4.
Victory at the Hisense Arena was Murray’s 37th in 38 matches against a French opponent and he will have the opportunity to extend that run further against Llodra in round three.
Murray took two breaks early on against Roger-Vasselin, closing out the first set in just 23 minutes.
The world number 101 then came into the game in the second, holding his serve in a number of nervy exchanges before Murray served for the set at 5-4.
Roger-Vasselin then had an opportunity for a break point of his own in the third set. Murray fought off the threat, serving a ferocious ace to stay on serve.
The final set went back and forth before Murray broke in the seventh game, returning a first serve from his opponent.
Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are Murray’s potential opponents in the fourth round and quarter final respectively.
