David Drysdale remains in touch at the PGA Championship, but Wentworth local James Morrison has streaking out ahead in the second round.
Morrison, who switched to golf after playing for the England youth cricket team, added a crowd-pleasing 64 to his opening 68 to move to -12.
He is four shots clear of Drysdale and the defending champion, world number two Luke Donald.
However the world’s top ranked player, Rory McIlroy, looks likely to miss the cut with another poor round.
The Northern Irishman hit a 74 on day one but is six over par for Friday, eight over for the tournament, and lies tied 133rd in a field where only the top 65 top through to the weekend.
Lee Westwood, who was beaten in a play-off by Donald 12 months ago, was also in danger of heading home, a double bogey on the seventh and bogey at the short 10th dropping him to level par, the expected cut mark.
Scotland Paul Lawrie and Scott Jamieson slipped further behind, both sitting on four under par after two rounds.
