Cycling legend Lance Armstrong brought the centre of Paisley to a standstill, all thanks to Twitter.  The seven times Tour de France winner posted an invitation online asking Scots fans to join him for a  bike ride before going to tonight's U2 gig at Hampden.

He posted an open invitation on his Twitter feed which read:  "Hey Glasgow, I'm coming your way tomorrow ? Who wants to go for a bike ride?"

The answer was lots of people, many of whom see Lance as a hero both as a cyclist and for beating  testicular cancer. Among them was Graeme Obree, the flying Scot and former world record, who, despite his stratospheric career in the same sporting arena, had never met Armstrong before.

In genial moood, despite the west of Scotland rain, Armstrong was clearly touched at the turn-out. The 37 year old now splits his time between cycling and campaigning on behalf of cancer research.

He once again extended his good wishes to former Celtic player, John Hartson, who's undergoing chemotherapy for the same condition from which he himself suffered.

Lance Armstrong returned to competitive cycling this year after retiring in 2005. He finished third in the 2009 Tour de France.

On the business of cycling, he was asked how preparations were going with regard toxt year's Tour de France, and if he had settled on a new team.

He said he was "getting there", about "half way there, a dozen guys."

As for how many more Tours he had left in him, he said "just one more". And he replied with a firm "no way!", when asked whether he was planning on staying around for the 2012 Olympics.
