Greig Laidlaw is pushing for the opportunity to transfer his club style onto the international stage for Scotland’s second Six Nations fixture.
Andy Robinson’s side travel to face Wales this weekend, having disappointed in their 13-6 loss to England in the opening match at Murrayfield.
Laidlaw missed out on a start in that game, eventually replacing first pick Dan Parks at fly-half.
The 26-year-old wants to be given the number 10 jersey at the Millennium Stadium, and impose a more composed and direct method of play on the team.
"With Edinburgh we throw the ball about, but we don't just play Barbarians style," said Laidlaw. "We kick, we pressurise teams, we're pretty direct.
"We don't just throw the ball about, although we do at times, and that's how I like to play the game of rugby.
"We [Scotland] are not far off. We just need to hold some composure and get over the line, hold that little bit more depth and just hold onto the ball at crucial times.
"We created a lot of chances. Next week going forward it's about taking the step over the line and scoring a try."
Laidlaw impressed after coming on against England and hopes he is given the nod to try and help end a four game spell without a try.
"I was quite happy with how I played when I came on," he said. "I injected a bit of speed into the game and we definitely made some chances when I was on the field.
"I'm quite happy with that. Whether that's enough, time will tell."
