Stephen Gallacher was pleased with his second place finish at the Dubai Desert Classic, but concedes he missed an golden opportunity.
The Bathgate-based golfer was joint leader throughout the final day of play, eventually finishing a shot behind the victorious Rafael Cabrera-Bello.
Gallacher hasn't won on the European Tour since success at the Dunhill Links in 2004 and said his performance just came up short.
"Second place in a tournament like this is good, but it was close but no cigar," Gallacher told the BBC.
"It was tough today, with cross winds and the greens firming up.
"It was tricky conditions compared to Saturday and I didn't hit the ball off the tee as well as I did."
Gallacher was also happy to be challenging the game's best for tournament success, finishing with 69 for 17 under.
The Scot though conceded his equipment wasn't quite up to the standard required. "My driver broke last week, so I am still playing with a driver this week that is not quite right," he said
"So first on the priority list is get a driver that suits me."
