Andy Murray is hoping he will have Ricky Hatton courtside when he bids for his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open on Sunday.
Hatton, who is on holiday in Australia, was in attendance when the British number one overcame Rafael Nadal in the quarter finals on Tuesday.
The Hitman had planned to be in Murray’s box for Thursday’s match against Marin Cilic, but was unable to attend as his fiancée Jennifer Dooley was ill.
The former world champion is due to leave Melbourne for Sydney before Sunday, but Murray, who is a huge boxing fan, is hopeful he will alter his plans to attend the final.
The Scot’s success on the court may inspire Hatton in his comeback to boxing after almost a year out following his second round knockout to Manny Pacquiao in May last year.
The Mancunian is on holiday to relax before making his controversial return to the ring, which is expected in the spring.
An opponent has yet to be named, but Hatton has insisted he doesn’t want an easy fight.
The 31-year-old has suggested former opponent Juan Urango and the tough Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez as possible opponents while rumours of a bout with Amir Khan continue to grab headlines.
