Lee McAllister successfully defended his Commonwealth lightweight title against Sam Amoaka in Glasgow on Friday. The Aberdeen Assassin won with a unanimous points win over the Ghanaian.

The 27-year-old was extremely confident in the run-up to the fight and it was evident in the ring. With his flamboyant style of fighting McAllister entertained the fans and boxed almost punch perfect to dominate the challenger.

However, Amoako fought back from seventh round battling to the end.  Amoako was ready to fight and tried in vain to find his flow in the bout, but was outclassed by the more experienced McAllister.

The title defence was the first time an Aberdeen boxer had headlined a bill in Glasgow and as McAllister’s profile grows so too will his fans base in the central belt following such an efficient demonstration of the sweet science.

The judges had to take their time in the end to decide a winner, as both fighters appeared restless and willing.

It was McAllister who snatched the verdict with 117-112, 117-112 and 116-112. Creating a new career record of 31-2.

A rematch with British champion  John Murray may well be on the cards next for the Commonwealth champ. Despite losing to Murray by an eighth round TKO last year, McAllister is confident  he has what it takes to rectify the loss and is eager for the opportunity .

With Murray expected to face Antony Mezaache for the European crown, McAllister is hoping a victory for the Englishman could lead him to a fight with the Commonwealth, European and British titles on the line.
