Mosley: Once I beat Mayweather twice I’ll fight Pacquiao

Shane Mosley has signed a contract to fight undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 1 according to Mosley’s attorney.

Attorney Judd Burstein insisted he had the word of Mayweather’s advisor Leonard Ellerbe that the fight will happen, with Mayweather expected to sign to the fight this week.

"It's a fight people have wanted to see for a long time, but never happened for whatever reasons," Burstein told the Los Angeles Times. "Now that it's going to happen, Shane is looking forward to doing what he and many of his fans have long thought he would do."

Mosley has been after a fight with Mayweather for a long time and even went so far as to challenge him on live TV during Mayweather’s post fight interview after overcoming Marquez in September.

Mosley had initially been scheduled to fight Andre Berto on January 30, but Berto had to withdraw due to the disaster in Haiti where members of his family live.

Now Mosley's attentions will turn to the long-awaited showdown with Mayweather, whose own fight against Pacquiao was scrapped due to the disagreement over blood testing. Mosley, however, is willing to submit to Mayweather’s stipulations for random drug testing, but it has still to be confirmed if Mosley’s WBA welterweight title will be on the line.

"We're ready to do it. I'm ready to go. I'm happy. It's May 1. It's something that I've wanted, and it's something that the fans will get a great deal of excitement out of. Everybody needs to come out and watch it, because it's history," Mosley told FanHouse.

"I just need to do what I do. Floyd has fought a lot of guys who are past their prime. Or he's fought a lot of guys who weren't as fast as him or as big as him. Or he'd just pick and choose," said Mosley.

"But this is a fight that I think that he's gotten pushed into because the Pacquiao fight fell out. So he got pushed into this fight. He didn't really want it."

"It wasn't just two months ago, but a year ago I've been trying to get a fight. I thought that after the Margarito fight, that I would land one right away. But they waited me out, waited me out, and I waited until the time was right. Now they have no choice but to come to me," said Mosley.

Mosley’s contract has a rematch clause if Mayweather should lose and he insists after beating Mayweather twice he will be looking for Pacquiao.

"So after I fight Mayweather a couple of times, then I'll go ahead and fight Manny Pacquiao," said Mosley. "That's just like I told the world it should have been that way in the first place."
